Day Trip Ghadeer-e-khum

Day Trip to Ghadeer-E-Khum: The Most Desired Destination in Islam's Holy Sites

Ghadeer-E-Khum importance in Islam begins with the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) travelling from Madinah with morethan 100,000 travellers in tow. On the way back from the last pilgrimage (Hajj) of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), a significant occurrence occurred at the Ghadir Khumm location. This number had increased not by hundreds but by thousands by the time of the return journey.

This caravan arrived at Johfa with great dignity and splendour on Thursday, the 18th of the month of Zilhaj10 A.H. (21st March 633 A.D.).

Makkah is located 13 km away from the town of Al-Johfa. From this location, highways spread outward in various directions toward Madinah, Egypt, Syria, and Iraq. There is a pond on its edge named Ghadir—an Arabic term for pond or a watering site. Due to its location, it is referred to in both historical Khumm and tradition.

The prominent places to visit in Ghadeer-e-Khum include Ghadir Khumm Mosque—a beautiful mosque near Ghadir Khumm. It is one of the beautiful Ghadeer-E-Khum attractions located midway between Makkah and Madinah. Historical accounts claim that this mosque was constructed where the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) gave the memorable Ghadir Sermon and informed the populace of Imam Ali's Wilaya(a).

ACTIVITIES TO DO IN GHADEER-E-KHUM

The most fascinating and spiritual activities in Ghadeer-E-Khum include fasting and offering shukran lillah prayers. "Fasting on the Day of Ghadir is equivalent to fasting for the duration of the [existence of] the entire world," says Imam al-Sadiq (p). Mumineen should pray two Rakatsalah of shukran lillah at the time of zawaal (before performing Zohar salah), followed by dua (supplication).

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said in his sermon, "Eid-e-Ghadir Khumm is considered as the best Eid of my Ummah (people), and that is the moment when Allah—the Almighty ordered to appoint my brother Ali b. Abu Talib (a) designated for my Ummah so that he can lead people when I am gone. And that is the day Almighty Allah perfected the religion, completed blessings upon my Ummah, and decided upon Islam as their religion. It is how Ghadeer-e-Khum importance in Islam matter the most.

Additionally, the day of Ghadir Khumm is the grand Eid of the Creator, according to Imam al-Sadiq (a). Allah has only sent a prophet if they had honoured and celebrated this Eid. And it is known as the Day of Covenant in the Sky and the Day of Solemn Covenant and Public Presence on Earth.

The celebration of Eid-el Ghadir, also known as Eid al-Ghadir Khumm, is significant to all Muslims. It commemorates the day at Ghadir Khumm when Prophet Muhammad's (Peace be upon him) tranquillity arrived on divine command, his family selected Hazrat Ali—the husband of his daughter and only surviving child, Hazrat Bibi Fatima—as the first in the next line of inherited Imams.

The Ghadir Khumm incident is also linked to the Prophet Muhammad's (Peace be upon him) well-known declaration that he was deserting two essential things: the Holy Qur'an and his progeny, which the Muslims view as the Prophet's testamentary declaration. The incident at Ghadir Khumm is mentioned in numerous trustworthy hadith sources. Muslims agree that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) halted at Ghadir Khumm—a desert spring between Makkah and Madinah.
